Columbia Hills Wildflowers 2026 Conditions

I still remember my first visit to Columbia Hills. I sped up the dusty road and saw the hillsides alive with color. Arrowleaf balsamroot glowed bright yellow mixed with deep purple lupine in the meadow, all bathed in warm golden-hour light against soft green rolling hills. It felt like a living painting.

The 2026 season delivered another strong bloom thanks to solid winter rains. While the main display has passed peak in lower areas, scattered patches of vibrant balsamroot, lupine, and other wildflowers remain on the higher slopes and protected canyons.

Columbia Hills Wildflower Season & Best Viewing

Wildflowers typically bloom from March through May, with peak often in late April depending on rainfall and temperatures. In good years like 2026, the hills transform into a breathtaking sea of yellow balsamroot and purple lupine that inspires my photography every spring.

Factors Shaping the 2026 Bloom

Heavy precipitation from winter storms triggered strong germination. Mild early temperatures helped the bloom, but recent heat has shortened the display window, emphasizing the rare, ephemeral nature of these scenes.
