Mono County on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada is one of the premier destinations for fall color along Highway 395 in California. Rugged granite mountains, volcanic craters, snow-melt streams, pine forests, and expansive aspen groves create incredible scenes each autumn. That chilly morning I drove through groves of colorful aspens to reach this viewpoint at Sagehen Summit.
The aspens were at peak color, glowing in vibrant shades of yellow and orange under clear blue skies as the sun rose. It was a magical spot to watch the light slowly illuminate the landscape and bring the fall foliage to life.
